I don’t even know how to begin. Three days isn’t very long but I feel overwhelmed by my short visit. The wonderful people, the poverty, the old buildings and cars, life as we don’t know it.
I traveled alone. One day I spent taking a ferry and 1 hour bus ride to a nearby village, the other two days I wandered around Yangon. I could not get over how old the buildings and cars were. That’s where I’ll start about my journey…with the taxis! Almost all of the cars are older than 1995. Most are just shells. One of the first ones I took had no material inside the doors, all wires exposed by the dashboard and a hole in the floor. My host told me that these old cars cost more than a brand new car in the States.
